Young National Pickin' Contest Winners
Ben Hall & Josh Woods
Win Our Hearts

(April 9th, 2011)

Let's review what our most significant Ohio Fingerstyle Guitar Club charter is:  "If we don't promote and support thumb-picking and finger style guitar - it will surely die with us."   At the beginning of the concert your able (and, somewhat cruel) club organizer asked all the 'pickers' in the audience to stand up.  LOTS of "guys" stood up, but, yep, you guessed it - all grey hair and nobody younger than in their 50's...  How in the world are we going to ensure that Chet Atkins, Merle Travis and Jerry Reed guitar style lives beyond our meager existence if we don't seek out and support some youth that shows some interest in "our" style????

Well, folks, I've got to tell you that "all's well in pickin' country."  Young 20 something's Ben Hall and Josh Woods came to show us their love of this style of guitar playing - and, to win our hearts.  ALL the Travis/Atkins standards were played with as much talent as our heroes.

Here's some video that Jim Shiporski (yes, he drove all the way down from Chicago to attend this concert) put out on the net.
